About Boca Cave (High Resolution)

Boca Cave is a protected archaeological site, remnants of a larger volcano, now largely dissected and eroded away by water and glaciation. Access to Boca Cave is not developed. The cave entrance is about 100' by 100' and has an arched roof. Slabs of consolidated ash up to 10 feet thick have fallen from the roof and have carpeted the sloping cave floor. The Kalapuya Indian Tribe used this cave as a place for vision quests. The tribe passed through the area on a trading route with other tribes over the Cascade mountain range.
